· Julia Sokol, a PhD student in mechanical engineering, is hoping to improve sustainability and yield by focusing on one aspect of agriculture: irrigation. “The global population keeps growing, so we need greater agricultural productivity,” says Sokol who works on a drip irrigation project at MIT’s Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Lab.
