Named for Elijah Brush's farm (originally the Askin farm belonging to John Askin). Mary Bailey of the Detroit News writes, "Brush was named after Edmund Askin Brush, son of Elijah Brush, who was a leading lawyer and Detroit's second appointed mayor.
