As far as I can tell from the research I've done, the surname "Aizpurua" is derived From "Aiz" , the Basque word for "rock" or "stone", and the "purua" portion comes from "buru", the Basque word for "head". Thus, the Aizpurua surname can be translated to mean "Rock-head" or "Stone-head". I'm unsure as to whether this refers to a geographical/physical feature of the place my family originates from (Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco) or if it refers to the personality traits of one or some of my forbears.
