I asked a friend who studies languages where she thought the name came from and her best guess was......that it dated back to the name of a tool like a hammer from early middle european times. Perhaps has a prussian or georgian name like bacha bachus !!! something like that anyway. For me this made sense as there was a strong connection to the building industry including working with wood, concrete and other materials in my family when they emmigrated to New Zealand from England. I have also heard of a Bythell history with a family shield that also had a translated name similar to Bachus! When I have asked at geneology presentations I have been told it goes to the Welsh name Bethell but I dont really buy that explanation
