'Aba' is a Yoruba word for 'compound' meaning a large area surrounding a house. The fore father of the Shin-Aba family had a very big compound that shelters a fruit tree (Ishin). 'Ishin' is a yoruba word for a distinct type of fruit. The fruit tree provided shade for family, friends, and neighbours while they relax with traditional games and folk tales. The people in the neighbourhood became very fond of the fore father - Shin-Aba (whose name was Yusuf Shin-Aba) such that they always leave a message with their relatives that they are going to 'Aba-Ishin'(fruit compound) to have fun. So the fruit compound became a very popular place among everybody. Any time people see our fore father, they tend to call him Aba-Ishin (because he was the owner of the compound and the tree). So, it became a nickname. During the cause of that period, the nickname was tweaked to become a formal name Shin-Aba from Aba-Ishin.
