The surname Ergatoudes originated in Cyprus,in the village of Ayia Phyla,3 kilometers in the north of Limassol.At the beginning of 19th Century,Christofis Georgiou was born in Ayia Phyla. He was a very poor villager and his only occupation was that of worker in the fields on payment, known as Christofis Arkatis (worker in Greek is ergatis or arkatis in Cyprus dialectos). Suddenly Christofis earned a treasure (this is our family secret) and became the richest man in the village. He changed the family name from Christofis Georgiou to Christofis Ergatis. His children, 3 sons and a daughter,after his death changed the surname to Ergatoudes, which means the persons came from Ergatis. (Arkatis to Ergatis to Arkatoudes to Ergatoudes).The oldest son,George Ergatoudes is my grand father, who had seven children,Costas,Theodosis,Christofis,Loucas,Maria,Eleni and Chrystallou. My father Loucas Ergatoudes made 2 sons, Andreas and Stelios (myself). I have two sons,Loucas and Neophytos and three grand daughters This was told to me by my father Loucas.
